Established in 1940, Wood Acres is characterized by their big trees, narrow streets, and families both young and old. Divided by an intersection and several four-way stop signs, Wood Acres has established itself as an esteemed neighborhood. Children of the area have the benefit of walking to Wood Acres Elementary School, one of the top schools in the area. To continue, the community has organized the Wood Acres Citizens Association (WACA). This all-volunteer organization manages to fill their calendar with family friendly events like food drives, Fourth of July parade, and a “Great Pumpkin” on Halloween. In addition, the 10.4 acre Wood Acres Park is home to a playground, two softball fields, a baseball field, a basketball court, and two tennis courts. Close to the neighborhood are a variety of shops within the Westwood Shopping Center and Kenwood Station.
