Welcome to Alexandria
Alexandria is an historic town just outside Washington, D.C., and bordered on the east by the Potomac River. Its vibrant waterfront scene includes boat clubs, museums, artist studios, shops and restaurants. Architecture ranges from 18th century residences and churches to high-end modern condos. The Mount Vernon Trail offers bikers a well-maintained route through marshes and wooded hills all the way to George Washingtons’ estate 12 miles south of Old Town. Popular restaurants such as Hank’s Oyster Bar, a restaurant serving New England style cuisine, and Columbia Firehouse, a preserved firehouse that is now a restaurant serving comfort and seafood, give the town character. The City of Alexandria is located just minutes from Reagan National Airport and has the convenience of both Amtrak and Metro Stations.
One notable neighborhood in Alexandria is Old Town. Old Town is Alexandria's beloved downtown and nationally designated historic district on the Potomac River waterfront. King Street is a walkable mile of centuries-old architecture and the heart of Old Town’s 200+ independently owned restaurants and boutiques. You’ll also find a wealth of historic architecture and attractions—a museum without walls—including the Market Square Museums and more hidden-in-plain-sight historic treasures.
